From the rugged terrain of the McDowell Mountains to the sparse magnificence of the Sonoran Desert, Scottsdale, Arizona, is home to some of the most spectacular scenery in the American Southwest. Commonly referred to as the "Beverly Hills" of Arizona, it is no surprise why the ultra-rich call Scottsdale home. Scottsdale used to be a collection of cattle ranches and citrus farms, but now it has grown into a 185 square mile cosmopolitan community of young up-and-comers, financially comfortable middle-agers and retirees enjoying the fruits-of-their labor. The city's "resort" lifestyle extends far beyond the grounds of its expansive hotels. Many housing developments feature golf courses and country clubs, with shopping and area attractions just a bike ride away.
For a city in the middle of a desert, Scottsdale is remarkably green. Contributing to this verdant landscape are lush, nationally acclaimed golf courses and Indian Bend Wash, the centerpiece of Scottsdale’s extensive recreational amenities. This miles-long ribbon of greenbelt, which extends down the middle of the vertically drawn city, is bordered by many parks that feature bike paths, fishing lakes and baseball recreational complexes.
Over 69 hotels and a plethora of award-winning luxury resorts with manicured golf courses host leisure travelers and convention goers year-round. To cater to this crowd, much of the city's development is retail oriented, even offering free rides on the Scottsdale Trolley (which connects Old Town Scottsdale with nearby Marshall Way, Fifth Avenue, Galleria Corporate Center and Scottsdale Fashion Square). In central Scottsdale you'll find streets that are lined with clothing boutiques, art galleries, restaurants and retail stores. Also not to be missed, and just north of Fifth Avenue and Old Town Scottsdale, is the modern shopping mecca of Scottsdale Fashion Square, featuring all the top designer stores that are giving veterans, like Rodeo Drive, a run for their money.
Interest in culture and the arts is especially strong in Scottsdale. Home to over 100 galleries, it is easy to understand why Scottsdale is internationally known as a mecca for art collectors. Residents here are drawn to the Scottsdale Center for the Arts, because it hosts an eclectic mix of intimate classical and modern concerts and other live performances.
With all this said, it is no wonder why everyone wants to "Call Scottsdale Home."
